For centuries, people have built mind-blowing structures underground. This series reveals incredible feats of human endeavour and reveals what people have built, where they’ve built it, how and why.

This stunningly-shot, epic series reveals engineering magnificence across the centuries and combines it with personal testimony from tunnelling and engineering experts, archive, graphics to reveal the scale of these underground structures and eye-opening interviews from historians. Plus - where possible - we’ll hear from the people who designed, built and use these subterranean structures today as they reveal their very own personal connections to earth’s Underground Worlds.

Across this series expect to immerse yourself in an underground cathedral in Poland, Berlin's East/West Cold War tunnels (71 and counting), the world's longest railway tunnel through the Alps, hidden networks under the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain in Rome, the Burlington Bunker in Wiltshire built for 4000 people with 60 miles of road, the birth place of Pilsner beer in the Czech Republic, a secret naval base in Sweden, Catacombs in Paris and the tunnels and entertaining spaces of the reclusive 5th Duke of Portland in the UK.

Each episode will reveal two Underground World in different countries. We will unpack each structure’s story - from idea, through its construction and then to its uses. Every underground world is different, each has a fascinating story hidden away deep in the ground - until now!
