Fishing the Wild follows two long-time friends Morgan Hartney and Hamish Simpson as they journey into one of those places – East Arnhem Land in remote northern Australia. A place that is as beautiful as it is dangerous, where many of the world’s biggest predators compete with one another. The Aboriginal landowners, who have protected and preserved Arnhem Land for more than 50,000 years, have given experienced fishermen Morgan and Hamish privileged access to explore, fish and hunt in this untouched corner of the globe. They also teach the boys some of their age-old secrets.

Episode 6 - Spaniyards Of Cape Wessel

Cape Wessel is where Morgan and Hamish are ultimately headed to target Spanish Mackerel.
They break up the 100km voyage with a stop off at the geographic phenomena Hole in the Wall, where they land a coral trout or two and camp for the night. The journey to Cape Wessel follows a long line of spectacular cliffs that plunge into the ocean where they use rock crabs to fish for blue bone and forage for mud mussels in a tidal creek.

Episode 2 - Night Barra Of Gangan

The adventure moves inland to a large freshwater billabong. The focus - the iconic Barramundi. As night closes in on the atmospheric billabong, the boys decide to stay out on the water in their tiny boat. Some spectacular specimens are caught and countless crocodile red eyes are spied. The following day kicks off with more freshwater fishing before an afternoon of swamp hunting with the boys. The day ends with a traditional feast of magpie geese, barramundi and kangaroo.

Episode 1 - Honey Island

The journey begins in the township of Nhulunbuy, the gateway to Arnhem Land. The boys’ first destination is Garrthalala. Here they meet with the locals and hunt stingray and milk fish, demonstrating the incredible spearing skills of the traditional owners. They then head out alone to a series of pristine tropical islands where they snorkel for crayfish, catch Giant Trevally off the white sand beach and venture to an area they call “cod alley”.
